ACFE Uganda Launches 2025 Fraud Awareness Week and Pushes for Stronger Anti-Fraud Measures
The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Uganda Chapter has officially launched 2025 International Fraud Awareness Week, running from November 17 to 21, 2025. Uganda joins the global movement to raise awareness about fraud, promote integrity, and strengthen efforts against economic crime.
At the launch event, ACFE Uganda Chapter President, Mr. George Turyamureba Mugabi, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to transparency and accountability across both public and private institutions in Uganda.
“Fraud remains a major challenge. It undermines economic growth and public trust. This week reminds us that fighting fraud is a shared responsibility. Together—professionals, institutions, and citizens—we can make Uganda more transparent and accountable,” Mugabi said.
ACFE Uganda’s Role in Promoting Integrity and Combating Fraud
Founded in 1988 in the United States, ACFE is the world’s largest anti-fraud organization. With over 90,000 members, the ACFE works to combat white-collar crime through research, certification, and training. The Uganda Chapter, established in 2008, has more than 150 Certified Fraud Examiners.
ACFE Uganda’s membership includes key government agencies such as the Bank of Uganda, Inspectorate of Government, and Uganda Revenue Authority, as well as major private-sector institutions like banks and telecommunications companies.
Training, Workshops, and Professional Development
The ACFE Uganda Chapter offers continuous professional development. This includes specialized training, workshops, webinars, and sensitization initiatives. These efforts strengthen ethical practices, fraud risk management, and governance across Uganda’s institutions.
Fraud Awareness Week 2025 Campaign
During Fraud Awareness Week 2025, ACFE Uganda will conduct public awareness drives, stakeholder meetings, and expert-led discussions on emerging fraud trends. These activities will equip organizations and citizens with practical tools to detect, prevent, and respond to fraud effectively.
The week will culminate in the 3rd Regional Fraud Conference, scheduled for 20th–21st November 2025 at Speke Resort Munyonyo. The conference theme is “Safeguarding Integrity in the Virtual World – Responding to Deepfakes and Insider Threat-Driven Fraud.”
This event will feature regional and international keynote speakers, anti-corruption experts, legal professionals, financial institutions, telecoms, professional bodies, and law enforcement agencies. The discussions will center on emerging digital threats, case studies, and preventive tools relevant to both the public and private sectors.
